Wainwright
The record of Lieut. Wainwright is foggy. It is possible that he was an American named Richard
who served in the US Navy. If this is him, he lived as long as 15 December 1882, when he was
recorded as participating in a trial regarding the loss of a steamer called Jeanette. However, this
puts an American officer on a British ship. If he was John Wainwright III, then there is record of
him sailing the Pacific, but as early as 1826; he immigrated to Lower Canada in 1836. Neither
records are convincing.
