Lecuyer, (also Lecuyers) Francois

Lecuyer was born in Quebec around 1798. He entered the service of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1825 and served as a middleman at Thompson River, Fort Vancouver and Fort McLoughlin before being assigned to Fort Victoria in 1843 where participated in the construction of the new fort.. Throughout his tenure at Fort Victoria he was often assigned farming/gardening duties such as ploughing and hoeing as well as tasks related to care and feeding of livestock, such as, cattle, oxen and horses. Church records indicate he was married to Marie, a northern native woman, on April 29, 1850. Hudson's Bay Company records suggest he may have moved south to the Fort Vancouver area in 1851-52 but returned to the Victoria area in the 1860s.
