Edward Wollaston Lang
Edward Wollaston Lang entered the Royal Navy at the beginning of 1833. He was promoted to
the rank of Lieutenant in mid-1842 while serving on the coast of Africa. By 1843, he was
employed in the Pacific with Captain John Duntze on board the Fisgard.
Though not much is known about Lieutenant Lang, he may well be the namesake of Wallaston
Street in Esquimalt. This street is home to the Coles House, the only house in Esquimalt
designed by the infamous architect Francis Rattenbury.
