Allard, Joseph

Allard was born in Lachine, Quebec and entered the service of the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1836. He served as a carpenter at Fort Durham (Taku) in 1842 and briefly at Fort Simpson before being transferred to Fort Victoria in 1843 where he became an integral member of the crew responsible for the construction and maintenance of the fort. Occasionally he and Lazard Onearste also made furniture for the fort. Though his contract expired on May 15, 1846 he remained employed at Fort Victoria until December of the same year when it appears he was transferred to Nisqually. Little is known of his movements following 1847-48.
