Commander Johnson

The HMS Driver was a wooden paddlewheel vessel, launched on Christmas Eve in 1840. She saw just over 20 years before she was wrecked on Mariguana Island in the Bahamas in 1861.

When Commander Johnson took control of the Driver, he was just six years married, but had over 20 years’ experience in the Royal Navy. He had become a commander just the year prior, in 1847. He traveled the world, with stations in the Mediterranean, Africa, and on the Pacific.
